Windows to Motherhood #1 Sophie

This is a new series and I'm starting it because I want to start exploring the lives of mothers. I want to do that because I find mothers completely fascinating. Their journey, their strength, their weakness, their energy, their heart, their guilt, their pain, their bodies. There's so much that sets mothers apart and so much that unites them as one and the same.

So here's my first mother; Sophie on 35mm.

"I became a Mum with Ruby 7yrs ago wasn't the best feeling in the world as I wasn't on good terms with her father, I also suffered from pre eclampsia so was a very long and traumatic time for me bringing her into the world, we are lucky we both survived. But once that was over it was the most wonderful experience ever holding my baby girl to think that is women can grow a human being."

"I work part time for a company called Carillionamey  but I am currently on maternity leave until June so I am a stay at home mum at the moment which I am enjoying."

"I'm fun, outgoing, laid back, my children are very well looked after they always come first before anything or anyone. I love playing children's games and going to the park."

"I really hate my body at the moment as I did put in a lot of weight with my second child and havnt lost it yet (has only been 3months tho) but I have started boot camp so hopefully be fit and toned in no time! I have a few stretch marks but they don't bother me at all I call them my tiger marks."

"I had a Ruby when I was 21 so I grew up very quickly I had to I was a mum, all my friends were going out clubbing I was staying in feeding and rocking my baby. Best feeling in the world."

"I think it's the best experience in the world growing a human being inside your body feeling it move is out of this world amazing. I delivered my second baby on my own in my bathroom at home which was very scary but also a beautiful experience sitting there looking at my beautiful girl who's staring back at me."

"I just want the best for my children aslong as there happy I'm happy! I am very close to my 7 yr old she is my very own mini me and I'm sure it will be the same with my second we are the three musketeers."

A Little Walk Around My Home Studio...

One of the things I am most proud of when I receive client feedback is how much they enjoy the experience. The majority of my clients are first time and very new parents, they have approximately 850 million reasons to be anxious leaving the house with their new precious baby and coming to a new environment. So I take real pride in bringing them a positive experience. When they look back at those first few turbulent weeks of parenthood, those weeks full of forgotten wipes and poo-splosions, carseat fitting failures and trips out the house with puke stains on their shoulders, against all that they can tally up at least one stress-free trip to the photographers.

So I'm going for a home from home with everything they need, a few quiet hours where we all move at baby's pace and all away from the hoards of visitors and piles of baby laundry.

It's also my home but here it is in newborn shoot mode...

Hylands House & Film Friday #3

I took a little trip up to Hylands House for a pre-wedding consultation and little nose around this gorgeous venue, I took some film and the EOS 3 and I am so glad I did! Powder blues and diluted turquoises seem to be my favourites on the 35mm...

Should of Worn Wellies...

It’s been my big girl’s 4th birthday this week. I’ll save all the “4?! FOUR! Where did it go?!” for a post once I have the trillion birthday pictures in some kind of order for sharing. And turn the blog to my baby boy for a second. This is Bowen… Have you met? He’s peanut butter and blueberry obsessed. A total mummies boy. Plays kitchen all the live long day when he’s at home or preschool. Says “thank you” for everything. He looks like a mini version of his Daddy. And is at once a vicious menace to all smaller children at soft play and the cuddliest little bear you’ll ever meet. If you ask “squeeze hug?” he will clamp those tiny t-rex arms around your neck like a boa constrictor.

A little ode to Bow… On a walk around the green that lasted about 4 minutes because he screamed to jump in the puddles and then (this many shutter click later) screamed to go home and take his wet shoes off…

Welcome to Spring 2016! & Film Friday #2

Happy weekend everyone! How's the week treated you? The first week of Spring! Hooray!

I’m usually pretty sad the see the Winter go… I feel the cold and I like it. I like two duvets on the bed. I like hot, stodgy food and a cold to your bones that makes you eat it until your stomach aches. I like jumpers, days indoors, heating on in the car and coffee dates.

But now I have two toddlers. And their little toddling butts have been kicked by Winter germs. We're all fed up of being indoors. I'm so ready to walk out the door without the trauma of tiny coats, tiny gloves, tiny hats and their tiny owners who don't them on or don't want you to help them put them on... So I am ready for Spring. I'm ready for light nights where I feel like I still have productive hours left in the day after the aforementioned tinies are in bed. I'm ready for being outside more. I'm ready!

I'm welcoming Spring 2016 in to the blog with these little carnation 35mm snaps. It's been a while since Farlie Florals so it was nice to get back to flowers and to test out my film camera on some still life. I like the teal hue to them and how the stems look emerald green, the flowers were much more purple in real life but here they are like maroon... Almost a moody period palette if it weren't for the white breaking it up.

Carnations on 35mm, Kodak Portra 160...

Baby Lyra - Newborn Portraiture in Colchester, Essex

I can't tell you what a lovely session this was. Beautifully loving first time parents. The free reign to use as much white as I liked. Happy, settled baby, who was absolutely breathtaking and liked to smile in her sleep.

Sweet snoozing Lyra.. What a joy you are!
