Happy Halloween! Farlie Frames Link Up #5

Every time I blog I imagine next time I'll manage to say something a little more significant in the text section. And every time I don't. Because every time I sit down to do this I can't seem to quiet the things around me long enough to hear anything that's going on in my head. This evening (yesterday evening) I'm realising this is a pattern and whilst since becoming a mum I've become (as mums do) very good at squeezing things in to pockets of time that I didn't even believe existed before I had children, I do not find any time to be quiet and listen to my brain. Except the time before I go to sleep when all I'm thinking is "shut-up brain, shut-up brain, shut-up brain..."

I guess I realised this about six months ago when I bought an e-book on mindfulness. In doing so I realised there is a glorious oxymoron reflected in the act of buying an ebook on mindfulness. As in if you don't even think you'll have time to carry around a real-life book and navigate yourself and said book to some kind of sitting vessel that is located near a lighting contraption, then you probably need the book that's before mindfulness.

So I'm blogging here. I got those two paragraphs done pretty quick actually... But then I look up and realised Bow has eaten a hell of a lot of mango skin. True story.

(Two baths, two pair of small pyjamas and two babies to sleep later.)

Anyway! The week's been nice... Homey. Autumny. All of us just pretty happy to be feeling well again. Half term crept up on me. I purposefully kept Monday and Tuesday "shoot-free" with the intention of blitzing my editing, ordering and emailing piles. Though I knew full well it was half term it wasn't until Sunday night when I pieced together that this meant no childcare. Ergo = no editing, ordering or admin blitz. It took me until about Monday afternoon to not be flustered by this and accept I would not be going to bed Tuesday with that satisfied-reduced-to-do-list-feeling. But from there we got in to the Halloween groove!

I like Halloween. Halloween's not a big deal in the UK. If I'm honest I have no idea what it's about or originates from. I assume something Pagan? But basically you wouldn't lose any parenting points if you missed it entirely. I like that. Zero expectation = 100% enjoyment. So if you pick up a pumpkin and give it a face then that's a good s|?end of £3 and an hour right?

So here are mine enjoying some totally elective Halloween-ness! Halloween crafts, pumpkin carving and a shameless costume dress rehearsal for sake of photo opportunity... (Because right now I have all week to bribe smiles and shows of sibling love for biscuits, but before our little friend Albert's Halloween birthday party on Saturday we won't ;)... )

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

Hatfield Forest Woodland Walking & Farlie Frames Link Up #4

Hello! Apologies for going AWOL last week… It may not officially be winter yet but our household is definitely holding the germ count of the winter months and we were all hit with a virus! And how hideous is it to be ill with kids?! VERY! Ever since having kids I don’t cope at all with being ill, I’m fairly sure I make myself all the worse with all the worrying I do about looking after the kids and panicking that I’ll just end up crying and rocking on the kitchen floor… Ahem… Definitely never happened… ;)

But here we are, snotty and still fairly miserable but determined to have some fresh air blow away one or two of the cobwebs at Hatfield Forest. I used to go here as a kid, for long Sunday walks in the winter, wearing 3 pairs of socks, circling the lake and always finishing with a bacon buttie and a hot chocolate so it always feels mega cosy and nostalgic coming here. Euna's as bug mad as ever so loves looking out for good old logs to flip over and find mini beasts. Bow gets a bit grumpy tripping over on bumpy ground but he was pretty sorry for himself so quite happy to stay mostly buggy bound.

All things considered... A successful escape from our pyjamas! But I'm not going to say we didn't straight home and back in to them... :D

A Triple Bill: Farlie's First Birthday, Pine Cone Painting and Farlie Frames Photography Link Up!

One year ago last week Farlie Photography website went LIVE! So I'm counting that as one official year of business. 365 days of serious self-employment. If my books were more up to date I could string a list of facts like 74 studio sessions, 56 babies, 32 newborns, 97 "korma poops" on blankets, 7 pairs of jeans changed on account of a rogue wee-stream... Etc. But I can't so I'll summarise with it's been a full year. (Too full for up-to-date book keeping.)

So many baby cuddles, so many birth stories, so many wonderfully sleepy eyed new parents, so many texts starting "He/She's here!", so many trips to the woods with families dressed in their best, so many times I've watched toddlers fall over and assured the parents "don't worry... you won't see it in the pictures", so many chocolate bribes, a good brides, a fair few bumps, the odd "I bet you can't run to the camera REALLY FAST...", the odd "don't I can totally get rid of your VPL in Photoshop...", one dog and thankfully not a single reshoot.

And I'm not done. Not even started. This is year 1, the warm-up round, the more I get in to this the more I want out of it and the anniversary has got me totally pumped for a whole batch of portfolio sessions to start directing my portraiture in a new direction and overhauling the website with the new look... Watch this space! :D

Here's a few favs from the last year...

On the side on things that happens for me when I put the editing, emails and (work) camera down here we are chilling with some autumn crafts. Nothing planned or Pinterest worthy, just painting pine cones. Where Euna seems to be hell bent on bring the outside inside in the form of every kind of "treasure" she can find whenever we go out, including all breeds of mini-beasts, we're never short of things to paint. These ended up tied with string and hung over a mirror in the lounge...

It's Farlie Frames #3! Thanks to everybody who linked up last week, some nature stills, a wedding, a bump shot, still-lives, a bump on the beach, the HARIBO MUSEUM (?!) and lots of Autumnal loveliness... So many treats! I hope you all come back this week and bring a friend... ;)

Dancing & Mushroom Hunting... Farlie Frames #2 Photography Link Up

"To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful..." Agnes de Mille

If only we knew how to be out of ourselves as easily as we did when we were 3. Just out of the world for a moment to get up and dance. I think I even remember that time. That skill. Just think yourself a certain way and there you are. Powerful is absolutely what you'd be.

Dance and bugs are my two's most favourite things right now. Bugs and generic nature "treasures" like acorns, conked shells, flowers and most seasonably mushrooms. This is us on a little afternoon walk finding mushrooms and pit stopping on a step that was obviously only built as tiny dancing stage for impromptu 4:00pm matinees...

It's Farlie Frames #2! Hello! Thanks to everybody who linked up last week, what a great start to a new link up!
