My Kids Love Goats

I don't know what it is about them but my two are absolutely beside themselves when they get to see goats. They squeal, scream, jump up and down and everything. If you saw them next to this goat barn you would think I had locked them in the garage for the last year, released them, fed them a thousand blue Skittles and this was the living being they'd seen.

Goat-euphoria. If that hasn't been a thing before now, it is now.

Farlie Florals Week 8... Roses on Parcel Paper

There's nothing like a deadline to focus the mind (and camera) and the thing I've learnt recently about being self-employed is that there's no one to make modular deadlines for you... So I find myself with my upcoming exhibition event and a list as long as my arm with things to do but pretty buzzed by the whole thing! Especially about getting these images down so I'm excited to experiment more and more with these florals ready for the final selection and print to wood.

Here's a little reminder about the last few weeks of florals:

Lilies... Week 1

Blossom... Week 2

Butterflies... Week 3

More blossom... Week 4

Dandelion Fuzz... Week 5

Stocks... Week 6

Tulips... Week 7

Now I'm starting to think more about the printing medium and how I won't be printing the white, so anything white on the image will essentially be negative space and where you really see the wood grain. With that in mind I wanted to extend the paper idea from last week and worked in some white stamping so there will be a play with negative space in the background. I also chose some bright roses for a real pop. I'm really pleased with these and almost certain they will feature in the exhibition evening!

Roses on parcel paper... :)

Baby Rupert... Colchester, Essex Baby Session

Well I've mentioned before how special it is to me to see families at the bump stage stage and then for the newborn stage and it so so is... But to meet up with families after the newborn phase and see them 9 months down the line is so awesome too!

They don't arrive asleep in their car seats, they won't lie down in mine or Mum's arms and far less tea gets drunk. In the spaces where those snoozes and snuggles used to be is the very best thing... character. Big smiles, twitchy feet, grabby fingers, sparkly eyes and all the fodder for fun a photographer could ask for! :D

So here is Rupert, recognise him? I had just started the blog and website when we met so he features in my very first post here! He's 9 months now... I was sure I was in for a challenge because he treated me so kindly in his newborn session but, as usual I am left surprised by these babies and, he was equally as exemplary as a model. Thank you Rupert, you beautiful little boy!

Farlie Florals Week 7... Tulips on Newspaper

Here we go again! My little flower project continues and here I am trying something a bit different after finding pages of this May 14th, 1970 edition of The Times in an old suitcase I bought for toddler shoots. Using my zoom (24-70mm, 2.8) because I wanted to get wide over the top of them. I used some hazing to dull the newspaper detail and some colour vibrancy and sharpening brushes to make the flowers pop. I'm really pleased with them and especially excited to see what would happen to if this was printed without the white to wood... Which leads me to an exciting announcement...

I'M TAKING MY FLORALS TO PRINT AND AN EXHIBITION!!! WAHEYYY!

I'll be selecting my favourite images from across the series and working with my wood canvas provider to create what I hope will be a really special line of unique wall arts! So if you have an particular favourites or ideas for which to print why not comment and let me know?!

Lilies... Week 1

Blossom... Week 2

Butterflies... Week 3

More blossom... Week 4

Dandelion Fuzz... Week 5

Stocks (the mystery was solved!)... Week 6

And here we go with this week's florals... As usual if you have any florals to share why not use #farlieflorals to show me!

Go West

The West Country is good for the soul. When I get down there I feel so many layers of nonsense peel off me. It literally sheds off as we turn off the A303, a bit at a time with every farm shop, thatched roof, tea room and sheep we go past. All the rubbish stuff falls and away and I can get a great feel-good "Eat Pray Love" type head on... Except for instead of pasta, Indian monks and Javier Bardem I  have scones, brisk British sea air and my lovely husband! ;) Though it's a shame Steve refuses to even attempt the accent... Same diff!

And when we get there I remember every time that kids already know what the "good stuff" is... They just pop with smiley eyes at the fresh air, sticky cakes, outdoors clothes, unnoticed scaped knees, made sandy car floors and grubby hands.

So here we are, road tripped down to Dorset for a cousins wedding and stopping to breathe in some brain space at West Bay in Dorset! <3
