Old Photos...

We lost my Grandma the week before last. She was old, she was so loved and she was very well cared for. She was with those that loved her at the time. It's sad but it was so beautifully as any of us would want it to be.  We went to North Devon for the funeral. We breathed chilly February sea air and I looked around at the service at all her children and her children's children and her children's children's children and thought about how big a life can be.

Back at the hotel and the wake my lovely cousin Claire and her children had pooled everyone's photos together and made this huge beautiful collage. A million memories, a million stories... Pointing, laughing, gasping and a hundred "look at my HAIR!"s were thrown around. At really old pictures we adored the retro shoes and puffy shoulders and at quite old photos we scoffed at the retro sofas and puffy hair. I learnt more about my Grandma than, I think, I ever have!

We drive home and I think about how that photo collage was the absolute talking point and I think about how much I love photographs. How we enrich our memories and experiences of the past with them. They're important. Say what you like about the selfie but imagine a time when we can so vividly experience a person's life through their phone gallery!

Happy (Belated) Valentines Day!

I started this post yesterday but it was far from a romantic day Chez Alexander... After a vaguely leisurely breakfast of Sainsbos croissants I hit Homebase for a new bin and then we spent the afternoon putting up shelves and clinging desperately to our sense of humours, which always seems that much harder when we're DIY-ing. Then we made pizzas with the kids for dinner which was fun but fraught and followed by a swift bedtime routine and a simultaneously "humph" and flop on the sofa with a glass of bubbles. We toasted a glass of bubbles and smirked through a few "how romantic" jokes together.

But read none of that negative... It's all good in the Alexander hood. I laid out on the sofa in my comfiest joggers with some seriously tasty plonk and thought how lovely it is to be cosy. And warm. Ski socks and The Voice. We talk about how well Rita Ora is coming across and how pleased we are those shelves are up (the mis-screwed screw holes will get polyfillered another time) and what an overdue job new bin shopping was (the other one was broken for months)... Often your most ordinary isn't the most extraordinary, but I'm feeling so comfortable admitting it's lovely. If Valentines is about that warm squishy feeling, then we were full of the joys :) <3

But fear not... Whilst we simmer down to a comfier take on romance, more outwardly displays of romance are still going on and it's not more obvious than in my inbox which is filling up with excited Brides to be planning their big days! Having survived my first official Summer season as a wedding photographer I am so so excited for this year! With some really fab weddings in some amazing venues coming up!

So to make a push on the wedding booking side I've been reworking some old images to make some new graphics for my Facebook page...

Waiting for Spring

I start to get itchy for Spring in February. The promise of any real snow is fading. Along with the novelty of staying home and eating hot food. And I'm thinking about how much easier it'll be to get out and about when layering up three of us with jumpers, hats, coats, wellies and gloves... Oh the GLOVES! (If you've never stood for what must be hours waiting for an almost 3 year old to put fingered gloves on because she has to doing eeeeeverything "ALL BY MEEESELF!!" then you just don't spend as much time hitting your head against your porch wall/car bonnet as I do...)

So come on Spring. Come on green. Come on warmth. Not a lot. I'm not a greedy girl, I just want to hit the great outdoors in pumps and a singular outer layer!

Whilst we wait... Here's a couple of the not-so-great-indoors...

Have you seen the new images on my website?

Boys!

Whilst picking images for an upcoming day of mini-shoots at Jungle Adventure (local soft play) it's occurred to me I'm a little low on boy images! And not just that, the boy images I have may be lacking a little in creativity! So I'm on a mission to up my game with the boys and I'm trying to think of props and set ideas.

Where do all great ideas start?! Pinterest! So I started a board "Boys Studio and Prop Ideas" (Btw have you seen my Pinterest? I'm a seeeeerious pinner!!) Favourite things so far include:

- Painted and distressed crates

- Vintage suitcases

- Painted chairs

- Wooden stools

A lot of photographers seem to be using darker backgrounds and floors for boys but it's not really my style so still thinking I'll stick to the creams and whites...

Next step is to get hunting around the local charity shops and of course The Blue Goose to see what treasures I can dig up... Aka shopping! There's already a threesome of old cases that I'm eyeing up from a vintage clothes place Dreamseller that I'm really excited about!!

I'll post as soon as I have a chance to practice! In the meantime... One whose fabulousness needs no assistance of props... Little Albert from last week!
